About Poetry by ShaSha

Susan Jakubowski (ShaSha) writes children's poetry with warmth, wit, and wisdom—earning applause from educators, curiosity from publishers, and giggles from kids everywhere.

Susan Jakubowski writes with the zip of a kid on a sugar rush and the wisdom of a grandmother who’s seen it all -- and still laughs out loud. She is a member of SCBWI, alumni of the Lyrical Language Lab, and cofounder the Caesura Circle critique group. Her playful poems have already garnered serious applause, earning first and second prizes across multiple poetry competitions.  Susan’s poetry carries echoes of Shel Silverstein and Jack Prelutsky—poets who speak directly to children but resonate with adults too– adding an extra dash of mischief and lessons learned. You’ll find her poems read at award-winning child-development seminars, Michigan libraries, elementary schools, and homes from the Midwest to California.  In her youth, Susan was raised on a nightly ritual of story time. Now, she champions the simple magic of twenty shared minutes with a book— “the gift that lasts forever,” she calls it. Susan passes that gift on through verse that invites children (and the grown-ups who read to them) to laugh, wonder, and talk about life’s big feelings and learning moments as kids giggle, gasp, and beg for “just one more”.
